The school will be renamed the University of Illinois Chicago School of Law effective July 1. The school opted to move away from associating with former-Chief Justice John Marshall due to “newly discovered research regarding his role as a slave trader, slave owner of hundreds of slaves, pro-slavery jurisprudence, and racist views [that] render him a highly inappropriate namesake for the Law School.”
