West Palm Beach IT Chief’s Firing Puts State, Federal Marijuana Laws in Conflict

West Palm Beach fired Jason McCarty, its top IT manager, for smoking “legally” prescribed marijuana. So reports a WKMG ClickOrlando.

cannabis 1382955 1920A representative of the city said the firing represents a policy meant to protect the public and other workers and that allowing employees to smoke pot “could endanger federal grants and contracts.”

While Florida has legalized marijuana, the federal government has not. It is unclear if McCarty is planning to sue.
