$2,555 Coat At the Crux of Settlement Between Neiman Marcus, Sealaska Heritage Institute

The Sealaska Heritage Institute and department store Neiman Marcus, among others, have come to terms over a lawsuit involving a coat bearing a “copyrighted, geometric design borrowed from Indigenous culture.” So reports the Associated Press.

NMThe dispute has been resolved under both “U.S. and Tlingit law,” according to the article. The lawsuit originated after the institute argued the retailer improperly linked a $2,555 “Ravenstail” coat to “northwest coast native artists from California to Alaska through the design and use of the term Ravenstail.” The terms of the settlement are confidential at this time.
