The case originated in 2017, when employee Derek Rotondo asked for 16 weeks leave in preparation for his second child, but was told he would only be approved if his wife was “medically incapable” of taking care of the baby. The sum is the largest parental-leave case to date. There may be as many as 5,000 workers encompassed by the class.
