Immigration Activist Released After Judge Finds Due Process Violations

Activist Ravi Ragbir will be released from detention after his situation was deemed "unnecessarily cruel." So reports The New York Daily News.

Manhattan Federal Court Judge Katherine Forrest said federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement violated his due process as he was set to be deported to his native Trinidad and Tobago before being given the opportunity to get his affairs settled. An order staying his deportation is in place. However, a representative from ICE said all appellate options are under review.

Granted residency in 1994, Ragbir has fought deportation after being convicted of wire fraud. He has led a "law-abiding life" since the conviction.
