However, prosecutors from the office of the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York claim that since Rahami is not in federal custody, there is no obligation for federal courts to be involved. Prosecutors said Rahami is not entitled to any rights in the federal system at this time, such as a right to counsel. Rahami faces five attempted murder charges in New Jersey in connection with a shootout with police. It is unclear if he has been read his Miranda Rights.
