House Committee Seeks to Oust IRS Head Over Missing Emails

IRS Commissioner John Koskinen told Congress he does not believe he deserves to be impeached, despite allegations the IRS did not act prudently during the investigation of the agency’s treatment of conservative groups. So reports the Associated Press.

Although Koskinen said he has been cooperative during investigations, a House Judiciary Committee impeachment resolution accuses him of ignoring subpoenas, lying and “overseeing an agency that destroyed emails as Congress investigated how the IRS subjected tea party groups seeking tax exemptions to harsh investigations years ago,” the story reads.

Investigators have not found evidence the IRS actions under Koskinen’s were politically motivated or that any evidence was destroyed. Koskinen did concede, though, some of his previous testimony was mistaken and some of the information requested was not preserved.
