Senate Expands Violence Against Women Act

The Senate recently voted to expand the reach of the landmark Violence Against Women Act of 1994 to specify that: (1) victim’s rights and prosecution programs created by the law can be used in cases of domestic abuse involving same-sex couples; and (2) tribal courts may pursue non-Indians who attack Indian woman on tribal land, according to a recent New York Times article.
