Fortune 100 GC Makes the Case for Part-Time Legal Work

When Allstate Corporation’s general counsel, Susie Lees, graduated from law school in 1987 as the mother of two young children, Allstate was the only company that would accommodate her request for a part time position. So reports Bloomberg BNA.

Today, as the head of the company’s 1,300-person legal department, she reports that she was able to have her career progress as her family life changed. “By the time the opportunities arose—like being general counsel of the Life Company and ultimately general counsel here—I had the time and the ability to put in whatever was necessary,” she says. “I think, when it works, it’s a beautiful thing.”
