The man, Michael Nolan, wrote the post in repose to a status update in which Ford criticized another man for his own degrading comments. After Nolan’s “slut” post, Ford tagged his employer in another status update on Facebook, in which she stated that men who post comments like Nolan’s should face consequences and wrote: “I wonder if the folks over at Meriton Apartments are aware that a man listing himself as a supervisor for their business likes to leave comments on women’s Facebook pages calling them sluts.”
Ford later reported on Facebook that Meriton Apartments had contacted her to tell her that Nolan had been terminated. Critics of Nolan’s termination argue that the hotel chain’s decision is inconsistent with “free speech” ideals.
