O’Brien was known for his work lowering the law school’s student-to-faculty ratio, increasing pay and prioritizing the hiring of females and individuals of color to teaching positions. O’Brien held a bachelor’s degree from Fordham University and served as an Air Force intelligence officer. He received his law degree from Fordham Law School in 1957.
